Athletics

St. Francis School recognizes the need for students to express themselves competitively through the medium of athletics.  It is with pride that we provide coaches, almost exclusively, from within the faculty.  This, of course, allows for better communication and continuity in our school community.  It also provides our students with coaches who understand and actively support the school’s mission.

Our interscholastic offerings begin, for the most part, for fourth and fifth grader participants.  We stress the importance of learning the many responsibilities of team membership.  As students move into seventh and eighth grade, we prepare students for the demands of high school sports. For us, this means more emphasis on strength and endurance and higher expectations for learning offensive and defensive strategies.

The Physical education program offers each child a series of activities that allow them to benefit from structured exercise.  As children are challenged to push their physical limits and take risks, we also want to develop positive character traits, an appreciation of one’s self and taking pride in one’s fitness level.
