Academic Excellence

Academic excellence is the cornerstone of the St. Francis experience.  Mastery of the core curricular areas (math, science, language arts, social studies and foreign language) provides the foundation for all future growth.  Our teachers are experienced, highly qualified experts in their respective fields.  They are committed to differentiating the instruction so that every one of our students is challenged according to his or her level of readiness.

We also recognize that there are other crucial components of the student experience that determine a child’s success (and happiness) in school and life.  Every St. Francis student enjoys a rich experience in the arts, learns to collaborate with others, participates in service outreach, and gets plenty of healthy physical activity.  Also, the loyalty and success of our alumni speak for themselves.

St. Francis students taking the Stanford 10 National Achievement Test in the fourth and sixth grades score an overage of two grades higher than grade level on every subtest if the exam.  The average St. Francis 4th grader tests at a 6.3 grade level; the average 6th grader tests at a 9.8 grade level.  More than half current 7th grade students have qualified for Duke University’s Talent Identification Program.

In the last five years, seven St. Francis graduates have been named valedictorian or salutatorian at their respective high schools.  Our graduates rank in the top two Louisville area independent schools in the percentage of national Merit Semi- Finalists.  Semi-Finalists represent those who score in the top 1% nationally among high school juniors taking the PSAT exam.

St. Francis Chess Teams have won over 100 separate individual and team titles in the last three years.

“The environment at St. Francis made me more independent, disciplined, motivated, and creative, all traits that have allowed me to succeed at Andover.” Chelsea Carlson, SFS ’05, Phillips Academy, Andover ’09.
