School Notes for Week of August 28 – September 1

High School Back-to-School Night is Thursday, September 7th at 6:30 p.m. on the Downtown Campus. All High School parents are encouraged to attend to go through their child’s class schedule and meet teachers. New parents – 9th grade or transfer, anyone new to the High School – are invited to the New Parent Reception, sponsored by our Parent Association, at 5:30 p.m. just prior to Back-to-School Night. Please join us to meet other parents and school personnel!

Lower School Student Council elections are scheduled for Thursday, September 14th. Students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades will be able to run for Student Council positions beginning the week of September 11th. We will elect a boy and a girl from each grade. Students who are interested in being Student Council representatives can get forms and information from Sarah Dewberry or Emily Campbell beginning Tuesday, September 5th. Please follow the instructions below:

  • All candidates must ask a teacher to fill out a reference form, available September 5th – 8th from Sarah. Dewberry or Emily Campbell.
  • Signs may be hung in the Main Amp or Lower School areas of the building the week of September 11th -14th. Masking tape or other non-marking adhesive must be used to hang signs.
  • Candidates may not give out anything that encourages votes. Examples are candy, stickers, notes, pins, erasers, and the like.
  • All candidates will give a short speech (2 minutes or less) on the morning of September 14th.
  • Elections will be held following speeches and the results will be announced at the end of the day on September 14th.

This is different than Homework Hall, and each student is responsible for communicating with his/her advisor if s/he will be going to Athletic Study Hall. Teams will be supervised until 30 minutes before the start of the game. In the event of two teams playing on the same day, students will be supervised until the first game begins and then will be sent to watch and support their teammates! This is a free option for student-athletes.
