School Notes for Week of November 6 – November 10

The Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15th through Tuesday, November 21st (Grandparents’ Day) on the Goshen Campus! Volunteers needed. In the past, the fair has raised money for a graphic novel collection, a projector and screen for the library, an audiobook collection, and an e-book database. This year, the library is raising funds to build a vertical library in its courtyard!

Volunteers are needed to help work the Book Fair. Before school and after school are the busiest times. If you would like to volunteer, please sign up using SignUp GeniusIf there is a shift you would like (especially an after-school shift and on Grandparents’ Day) that is filled, please email Lindsy Serrano. The more help, the better!

The Wyvern Ski and Snowboard Club is back! The Wyvern Middle School Ski Club (grades 6th – 8th) and the High School Ski Club are enrolling members for Friday night ski fun at Perfect North! Thank you to everyone who participated in The Pulsera Project! We were sent 500 pulseras (hand-woven bracelets) and 15 bolsitas (bags) as a fundraiser to support the Nicaraguan and Guatemalan communities. In just two weeks we sold 436 pulseras and all of the bolsitas, raising a total of $2,310! Way to go, Wyverns!

Looking for something to do this weekend? Check out our Artist-in-Residence Kathleen Lolley’s paintings exhibited at Craft Gallery & Mercantile. Described by LEO Weekly as “Louisville’s most enchanting artist,” Kathleen opened her show last Friday and “kicked off Día de los Muertos with new work inspired by this revered Mexican festival.” Admission is free and her exhibit runs through November 25th.

Don’t miss the opportunity to reserve your copy of the 2017-18 yearbook! We are able to offer a reduced price of $50 until March 1st; after that, the price will be $57. Similar to last year, the yearbook will come out BEFORE the end of the school year so that students can sign copies and have them for the summer break. We will mail a spring supplement full of great photos from end of the year activities, graduations, etc. to each person who purchases a yearbook. The spring supplement comes with an adhesive strip to insert into the yearbook. Also, all yearbook ordering and purchasing is done through our yearbook company, Herff Jones, so you will receive emails directly from them.

Thank you to all of the families who purchased personalized items from Art to Remember. The profits from the program will allow the Fine Arts Department to bring in a visiting artist to work with students this winter. If you are still interested in purchasing an item personalized with your child’s art work, please contact Anne Holmes.

Attention, Enrichment Parents: If you need to get a hold of Enrichment Director Keyonda Turner during Enrichment hours, please call or text her at 502.994.8302. In case of emergency, or if your afternoon plans change, it is most efficient to contact her directly. We would also like to remind you that all students must be picked up no later than 5:30 p.m.

School Notes for Week of October 2 – October 6

As a reminder, the Goshen Campus will dismiss at NOON on Wednesday, October 11th for staff professional development (Preschool students have a normal school day). For students in JK through 4th grade, childcare will be available on the Goshen Campus from 12:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Please sign up no later than Monday, October 9th at 12:00 p.m. if you need to utilize this service. The link to register can be found here. The charge for childcare will be $30 per child, and you may choose to pay by cash/check or be billed by our Business Office. We will also be offering the 5:30 p.m. Activity Bus for those that need it as well. Lunch and a snack will be provided for students who are registered for Enrichment. Because we need to plan our staffing accordingly, drop-in service will NOT be available on this day. Due to staffing limitations, we are unable to offer Homework Hall/childcare for our Middle School students on this day.

For bus riders, we will offer our normal bus service, but on an adjusted schedule. This means that students will be dropped off approximately 3 1/2 hours earlier than their normal scheduled time. For example, if your child normally gets dropped off at 4:00 p.m., then the bus will arrive at 12:30 p.m.

Attention High School Parents: Next Friday, October 13th at 8:30 a.m. there will be a Parent Discussion Group with Terri White, LCSW, Director of Counseling Services on the Downtown Campus. The topic of the discussion will be Adolescent Depression and Suicide Prevention. Terri will be providing education to all of the students this month and would like to present some of the same information to parents and guardians. Approximately 20% of teens will experience depression before they reach adulthood, meaning that all of our students will be affected by it through friends, if not themselves.  Suicide is the third leading cause of death among adolescents and young adults. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The Parent Discussion Group will take place in the Space for Thought on the Downtown Campus. Please RSVP to Terri WhiteRSVP is not necessary, but it is appreciated.

Terri has now had introductory student meetings with all new students. Students were informed about how the School Counselor can be a resource for them as they are trying to navigate high school and adolescence. As a parent or guardian, if you have any concerns about your student’s social and emotional well-being at school, please contact her.

Attention Parents: Your child(ren)’s school photos have been emailed to you. Retakes will take place on Thursday, October 12th and Friday, October 13th for the Goshen Campus and Wednesday, October 18th at the Downtown Campus.

Attention 6th Grade Parents: Please join us for a Pine Mountain Trip parent meeting on Friday, October 20th at 8:30 a.m. in the Main Amp.

School Notes for Week of September 18 – September 22

The St. Francis School Jazz Band on the Goshen Campus returns for another concert season. Middle School woodwind and brass students, as well as drumset players, pianists, bassists, and guitarists of all skill levels are welcome. Interested students should meet briefly in the Middle School music room on Monday, September 25th during snack recess to pick up music and talk about our upcoming guest artists. Our first rehearsal will be Monday, October 2nd from 3:45-4:45 p.m. All rehearsals will be Monday afternoons.

Attention Goshen Campus Families: This is an important reminder that Student-Parent communication during the school day must go through Natalie Bruner in the front office or through a teacher’s classroom desk phone (with teacher permission) rather than through your child’s cell phone.

Your child’s health, safety, and whereabouts is of utmost importance to us. Rather than being out of the loop, we want to be sure that Natalie and your child’s teachers have a clear understanding of your child’s health and wellness needs, as well as after-school transportation arrangements.

Should you need to leave your child a voicemail or text, please understand your child is not supposed to have his or her phone out until 3:25 p.m.
