Week Before Winter Break Goes Out With a Bang!

By Reed Gabhart, Head of the Goshen CampusBuddyDay_1

As we head into Winter Break amidst off-and-on snow, basketball celebrations, Peter Pan, Jr., a Chinese New Year’s Buddy Day assembly (complete with traditional music and dancing from our 8th graders), Regional Governor’s Cup being held on our campus, and Healthy Choices classes wrapping up (do we sound a little busy around here??), I wanted to acknowledge our students who recently competed in the rising 6th and 9th grade Merit Scholarship Competitions.

This contest, consisting of Language Arts and Math tests, an essay, a science experiment, a personal questionnaire, and teacher recommendations, is highly competitive! And let me tell you, it is very difficult to differentiate among these very talented students! The judging is completely “blind,” as no names are included anywhere and contestants are only referred to by a number.  For the 5th graders, 25 students entered and five of the six finalists were from the Goshen Campus; for the 8th graders, a record 35 students entered, and three of the seven finalists were from our Goshen Campus.  We announced the results to the students in Morning Meeting today and they were all thrilled for those honored.  You’ll see the results and photos separately in this newsletter.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Winter Break (and we get the snow out of our system next week!).
