Briefly describe your career after leaving St. Francis.

I graduated from Harvard in 1990 with a major in history, and in soccer. Mostly soccer! I spent the next two years working for a small conservation group, then returned to school and completed two master’s degrees, in forestry and resource economics, from Duke University. Growing up on a farm in Oldham County, land issues, conservation issues, and forestry issues have always been of interest to me.

Join Us For The 20th Anniversary Of Imagine!

Imagine! | January 30, 2016 | Tim Faulkner Gallery | 1512 Portland Avenue
Art Auction + Scholarship Fundraiser

Join us for an immersive art experience including works for sale by locally and nationally recognized painters, sculptors, photographers, glass, and jewelry artists as well as interactive art stations and musical performances.

This year we have revamped the format and will not be hosting a live auction (insert sign of relief here!).  Instead of a traditional seated dinner we will have a delicious array of food stations catered by Wiltshire Pantry.  But don’t worry – there will be ample seating for you to enjoy your dinner while allowing you the freedom to move throughout the gallery and enjoy the art.

6:30 PM – Event Begins & Auction Opens
9:00 PM – Entertainment Begins – Niles Foley + Special Guests
10:30 PM – Auction Closes

Sam Borden ’16, featured in C-J for his perfect ACT score

Sam Borden '16

Sam Borden ’16

Kudos to senior Sam Borden ’16! Sam is featured in the Courier-Journal today for his perfect ACT score. In the article, Sam gives a shout out to Dr. B, aka Benjamin Studenvent-Hickman, “his physics teacher, Benjamin Studevent-Hickman, has been a great role model for him, and someone he wants to emulate.” When asked about Sam, Dr. B returned the praise saying, “Sam is an extraordinary kid because of his deep intellect, myriad talents, and modesty. Sam is an extraordinary student for his willingness to integrate feedback from his teachers, not only on his work and academics but also on his life in general.”

Sam’s senior project is on the acoustics, history, and cultural significance of the erhu, a two-stringed bowed musical instrument.  “His ability to integrate physics, historical research — partly in Chinese — and a sensitivity to cultural nuance, all as part of a single project, is why I choose mature as the one word to describe him,” said Dr. B.
